Adjunct Professional Development and College Service Information
This page provides an overview of the Adjunct Faculty Professional Development and College Service Program, including eligibility requirements, compensation details, important deadlines, and how to complete the required eForm.
Program Overview
The Adjunct Faculty Professional Development and College Service Program provides eligible adjunct faculty with paid opportunities to participate in professional development and college service activities that enhance student learning, support institutional goals, and foster engagement across the Los Rios community.
Eligibility
- Adjunct faculty must have an active adjunct assignment during the semester in which activities are completed. Faculty without an active assignment are not eligible for participation or compensation.
- Eligible adjunct faculty may complete up to 27 hours of combined (districtwide) compensated activities per academic year. Activities may be split across the fall and spring semesters or completed in one semester.
- Eligible adjunct faculty must have enough FTE for activities that are FTE-creditable; this cannot exceed 67%, or 62% for counselors.
Compensation
- Adjunct faculty will be paid based on their current placement on the B2/B3 adjunct salary schedule.
- Activities must align with the Adjunct Faculty Professional Development and College Service Program – Ancillary Activities Table.
- Timesheets must be submitted through the regular campus process.
Pay Dates
- Fall semester: paid on February 10
- Spring semester: paid on July 10
Approved Activities
Not all activities qualify for compensation. View the Approved Activities List.
Deadlines
- Submit your application by August 15 for the academic year in which the activities were completed.
- Submit your application before your contract ends for the semester to maintain access to Employee Self-Service.
- Late applications will not be accepted.
Flex Obligation
Some adjunct faculty may have a Flex obligation based on their schedule. Check your Tentative Course Schedule (TCS) to see if this applies to you.
- If adjunct faculty have a Flex obligation, they must complete that section before entering PD/College Service hours.
- The number of Flex hours entered must match what is listed in the adjunct faculty's TCS.
- Flex hours are separate from hours eligible under this program.
- Completion of the Flex Activities table in the online form does not take the place of normal Flex reporting at the campus level. Adjunct faculty must still report Flex through their campus-based system.

Instructions for Adjunct Faculty
Adjunct faculty can submit an eForm through Employee Self-Service. Follow these steps:
Log in to Employee Self-Service
Log in to Employee Self-Service.
You can find a link to Employee Self-Service under the Employee Login drop-down near the top of any Los Rios Community College District Employee webpage.
Navigate to HR eForms
After you log in, you will see your employee homepage. Select eForms, then select HR eForms.
Find Form
Select Adj Faculty Prof Development. In the sub-navigation menu, select Start an Adj Faculty PD eForm.
- You can only submit one form per term, per location, which is why this form should be completed at the end of the semester.
Select Term
Click in the Term box to select the term. After you select a term, you'll see the Academic Year Totals button is active. Click on the Academic Years Total to see a summary of previously submitted hours and activities.
Enter Flex Activities
If a Flex obligation is due, then complete the Flex Activities table before submitting the form. All Flex Activities need to be included on the first form submitted for each term. Completion of the Flex Activities table does not take the place of your normal Flex reporting for your campus.
If you have a Flex obligation, you are paid on your first paycheck of the semester for any hours you would have been working with students on Thursday and/or Friday before the semester's official start. You have most of the semester to fulfill your Flex obligation if you have one.
To determine whether you have a Flex obligation, look at your Tentative Course Schedule (TCS). If you do have a Flex obligation, enter the activities that you completed to fulfill the obligation, along with the date and the number of hours for each activity. Enter the total number of hours in the box marked Hours. Total Hours will be calculated in the Total Hours from the Flex Activities Grid field. Your Total Form Flex Hours must match your TCS Flex Obligation – if they don't, you will not be able to submit your form.
Your Flex obligation is separate from any work done under the Adjunct Faculty College Service and Professional Development Program. If you do not fulfill your total Flex obligation by the end of the semester, a loss of pay will be processed for the balance.
Completion of the Flex Activities table in the online form does not take the place of normal Flex reporting at the campus level. Adjunct faculty must still report Flex through their campus-based system.
Enter College Service and Professional Development Activities
- Enter information in the Date From (start date) and Date To (end date).
- Click in the Activity ID box to select the activity from the lookup list.
- Complete the Activity Description/Notes (make sure this is clear to the dean).
- Enter the Hours of the activity (no more than 8 hours in a day).
- Use the + to add a row or the – to delete an entry.
Select Approver
Select your dean's administrative assistant from the Select AA box.
Certify and Submit
Click the Acknowledgement toggle to Yes, then select Submit.
Print or Save a Copy
Print or save a copy for your records.
Adjunct faculty can view existing eForms (without access to make changes) through Employee Self-Service. Follow these steps:

After you log in, you will see your employee homepage. Select eForms, then select HR eForms.
Find Form
Select Adj Faculty Prof Development. In the sub-navigation menu, select View Adj Faculty PD eForm.
Adjunct faculty can update eForms they began and saved before submission through Employee Self-Service. Follow these steps:

Navigate to HR eForms
After you log in, you will see your employee homepage. Select eForms, then select HR eForms.
Find Form
Select Adj Faculty Prof Development. In the sub-navigation menu, select Update Adj Faculty PD eForm.
Leave the various Search by options blank, and just hit the Search button to see a full list of all forms pending your action.
Instructions for Staff
Administrative assistants should take the following steps in Employee Self-Service:

Find Form
Select Adj Faculty Prof Development. In the sub-navigation menu, select Evaluate an HR eForm.
Select Division
Select whether the adjunct faculty member falls under Instructional or Student Services. This information is necessary for the generation of a ESA and/or PEX.
Managers should take the following steps in Employee Self-Service:

After you log in, you will see your employee homepage. Select eForms, then select HR eForms.
Find Form
Select Adj Faculty Prof Development. In the sub-navigation menu, select Evaluate an HR eForm.
Select Approvers
- Choose the ISA (this is the individual who processes ESA and PEX forms).
- Choose the Hiring Manager (this will auto populate with your information).
- Choose the Authorized Signer (this is the vice president who normally approves).
These will be the approvers for the ESA/PEX that is generated after the eForm is approved.
Key Updates
- Automatic Contract Generation: ESA (with or without FTE) and PEX contracts are auto-generated based on activities submitted via the Adjunct PD eForm.
- Verification Required: The Instruction Office or ISA role must verify ESA and PEX entries against program rules and guidelines.
Processing Notes
- Class/Step Data: Pulled from PeopleSoft.
- Position Determination: Based on the Adjunct Faculty Professional Development and College Service Program – Ancillary Activities Table and role selected by AA (Instructional or Student Services).
- Timesheets: Adjuncts must continue submitting timesheets and follow the established ESA/PEX process at their campus.

Step Placement
Use the Step Increment Report to determine the adjunct's class/step – this is their regular adjunct (B Schedule) placement, not their ESA fiscal year placement.
PEX Example
PEX follows the same placement process as ESA. Use the B2/B3 Salary Schedule corresponding to the semester (Fall or Spring).
Payment Timing
- Fall ESA Dates: Dec 1–31 → Paid on Feb 10 (Variable Payroll)
- Spring ESA Dates: May 1–mid-May → Paid on July 10 (Variable Payroll)
- These ESA payments will be processed as write-ins due to submission deadlines.
