Becoming A Student Ready Educator: The Key Role of Professionals in Student Services and Support (Districtwide Professional Development)

This session explores how Student Services and Support Professionals contribute to creating a Student-Ready institution where students can successfully navigate systems, access resources, and complete their educational goals.

Through reflection and collaborative discussion, participants will examine current practices and identify strategies to strengthen key support functions that help students matriculate, persist, and graduate on time. The experience highlights critical competencies needed for facilitating coordinated pathways to student success. Activities and discussion prompts will be anchored in examples of shared findings identified in the Equitable Outcomes Assessments conducted across LRCCD to support the implementation of recommendations such as increasing awareness of and connection to college resources, programs, and services.

About the Workshops

From 2023 to 2025, Hotep Consultants (HC) conducted an Equitable Outcomes Assessment at Sacramento City College, Cosumnes River College, American River College, and Folsom Lake College to better understand the environment, climate, and overall experiences of LRCCD employees and students.

As a culminating activity of this partnership, HC will facilitate Equity-Focused Professional Development Workshops that all employees across the district are welcome to engage in.

Three distinct experiences have been developed for Student Services and Support Professionals, Instructional Faculty, and Administrators. Each session will be offered twice to provide multiple opportunities for participation.
