More in This Series
This session invites faculty to examine how course planning and lesson design influence student engagement, learning, and course success. Participants will reflect on the distinction between "teaching the material" and "teaching the students," and explore strategies that build on students' prior knowledge, interests, and experiences.
Through collaborative inquiry, faculty will develop practical approaches to lesson planning that foster clarity, belonging, and equitable learning opportunities in the classroom. Activities and discussion prompts will be anchored in examples of shared findings identified in the Equitable Outcomes Assessments conducted across LRCCD to support the implementation of recommendations such as strengthening classroom practices that foster student belonging and engagement.
Audience
- Part-time and Full-time Faculty
About the Workshops
From 2023 to 2025, Hotep Consultants (HC) conducted an Equitable Outcomes Assessment at Sacramento City College, Cosumnes River College, American River College, and Folsom Lake College to better understand the environment, climate, and overall experiences of LRCCD employees and students.
As a culminating activity of this partnership, HC will facilitate Equity-Focused Professional Development Workshops that all employees across the district are welcome to engage in.
Three distinct experiences have been developed for Student Services and Support Professionals, Instructional Faculty, and Administrators. Each session will be offered twice to provide multiple opportunities for participation.
